Inception ending explained. Inception film. I cried at the scene with his children in the water. one of the best movies Ive ever seen. Don't get me wrong, this movie is one of the best I've seen and it's really worth having such a movie in the top but I feel like something didn't touch me like I initially thought.
First of all, I think Di Caprio was Nolan's biggest and possibly sole mistake, if the supporting cast was in my opinion pretty well chosen, Di Caprio doesn't inspire me at all in such movies. Nolan chose actors like Guy Pearce and Christian Bale very well in the past.
Of course, after Memento and The Prestige it was a bit lame probably to use the same leading actor in one of his hits, apart from already having Bale also in Batman 'that let's say, is in another category face to these 3' but there were a lot of other good options 'on the market.
Di Caprio didn't do a bad job, not like he goofed or anything, just doesn't seem right for me in such roles. On the other side Marion, Ken and the others were very well chosen in my opinion. Maybe some consider Ellen Page too much for teenagers movies but she had to play a intelligent college student from Paris, maybe a bit nerdy and scared of the situation at first and later impressed about the alternative 'career' she was offered, suddenly too interested in Cobb's sentimental situation and to find out about his obsession with Mal.
In my opinion the ending leaves enough space for a sequel and there's nothing wrong there. Just looking at everybody how they discuss the possible outcomes, from simple ending to a 'movie was all dream' and eventual infinite cycle of dreams Cobb has, makes me think this movie can't die without at least a sequel. Of course, it could very well just remain 'a mystery' but face to Memento and The Prestige we don't get any firm answer. Nobody thought they were twins and it came as a surprise at the end of the movie while in Inception, the questions are yet to be answered.
